Michael Medin’s trip to the Nagios Conference: „It was in fact much worse!!”
Michael Medin´s odyssey! One of speakers at our Conference on May 20th, told us his horror trip to get back home. Already the journey to Bolzano was sort of troublesome, to get back home was much worse.
Michael reached the airport and much to his surprise, he was taught a brand new word: “no-show”. The literal term is not so new, but the meaning is probably unknown to most of you: If you miss your outbound flight for any reason at all, and forget to confirm the return flight, the latter is automatically cancelled. Therefore he ended up in Munich (on a National Holiday weekend) without a ticket. The airline company offered him a far too high-priced return flight, so he was stuck in Germany.
He then reached the last minute stand and booked a home ticket at a reasonable price for the next day. All’s well that ends well or so they say. Not this time! He got to the airport the next day and surprise, surprise, his plane was overbooked. He, together with other twenty passengers, ended on the waiting list. The company was quick, he was “re-routed” via Prague and even got a considerable amount of money back (almost the entire fare).
In short it was his worst trip ever, but after all, he seemed to be in excellent form in his speech – but that was before getting back home 😉
