Open Source strategies in the US administration: John Weathersby at the Open Source System Management Conference

John Weathersby will be among the speakers at the Open Source System Management Conference on the 18th of April

John Weathersby in his intervention at the Open Source System Management Conference will point out the Open Source strategy at the Federal and Stage government agencies of the US. As founder of the American-Open Source Software Institute, which is vastly involved into the IT strategy definition of the US administration, his aim is to promote the adoption of Open Source in US public state and local agencies. The institute helps government stakeholders identify and facilitate Open Source software solutions as a viable business opportunity.

While most of his institute´s experience is in the intelligence community, John in his session shares also examples of situations where the government was able to spin out an Open Source based workflow management system, which successfully structures the legal status to create a Open Source project which can benefit other agencies and safe government budgets.

John is the founder and executive director of the Open Source Software Institute, a U.S. – based non profit organization whose mission is to promote adoption of Open Source software solutions within US Federal, state and local government agencies.  As the director of “OSSI”, he has served as an advisor to a number of Federal and state government organizations. He is also a founding member of the Open Technology Research Consortium, a strategic alliance of leading academic research institutions and open technology development organizations which focus on Open Source software solution implementations within government and public sector enterprise systems.
