Software distribution with OCS Inventory

The IT department frequently needs to manage the update, installation or even the removal of certain applications on the clients within the company. If you think to complex environments where the clients are located worldwide, it is clear that it is necessary to find a simple and automatic method to perform these activities.

The Open Computers and Software Inventory Next Generation, a technical management solution of IT assets, integrated into NetEye offers the possibility to centrally manage the software distribution. In fact, OCS can send only once the copy of the updated or new application to a software distributor (a inventoried machine in OCS with a OCS agent installed) that will distribute the software to all the local clients, avoiding bandwidth consumption to the remote sites. With this solution the software removal, update and new installation can be quickly and centrally managed.

This feature automates the software distribution to the clients. Using software distribution eliminates the inefficient process of providing thousands of software CDs to users, along with programs and instructions. This automated process also reduces user errors, such as entering wrong values in the prompt, executing unsuitable programs or setting incorrect arguments. Clients can then successfully execute the programs and install the software without the need to know how to set run or configure the programs. The clients do not need to manage their own upgrades that are centrally defined and controlled by an experienced staff. Centralized management of software distribution in your organization allows you to monitor the distribution process from beginning to end avoiding errors and speeding the entire phase of installation, upgrade and removal of different softwares.
