NetEye 4.45 Release Notes

Welcome to version 4.45 of our NetEye v4 Unified Monitoring Platform.

As you log in, you’ll be welcomed by the serene winter landscape of St. Magdalena/Santa Maddalena in Villnösser Tal/Val di Funes. The small village rests quietly beneath the dramatic Geisler peaks, blanketed in fresh snow that softens every contour. Morning light brushes the slopes, revealing delicate contrasts between the dark evergreens and the pale, untouched fields below. Just as this alpine scene offers a moment of stillness and clarity, this release brings a focused set of enhancements designed to make your monitoring environment even more reliable and streamlined—discover what’s new below.

General

Ansible 2.16

To maintain the platform’s security, reliability, and alignment with the latest improvements, we have upgraded the automation core to Ansible 2.16.
If you have any custom playbooks, please review the breaking changes introduced in this version to make sure everything continues to run smoothly. For more information, refer to the related user guide page.

Monitoring

IcingaDB Web as the new monitoring UI

During the transition from the legacy IDO backend to IcingaDB for monitoring, we are pleased to announce that IcingaDB Web is now the default monitoring UI.
The new monitoring UI offers an enhanced user experience for various pages, including Overview, Hosts, Services, and Problems, and leverages the full potential of IcingaDB.

Since we are still in the process of migration from IDO to IcingaDB, the historical data is still saved and loaded from IDO as before.
Due to this milestone, some breaking changes apply, including a change in the behaviour of how monitoring roles are handled.
All the details about these changes can be found in the upgrade guide.

The Icinga2 DatastreamWriter

In this release we developed a new performance data writer for Icinga2. We are happy to release the ElasticsearchDatastreamWriter to our users.

The new writer includes several improvements over the old ElasticsearchWriter, like improved error handling, retry logic and logging. The writer will structure the CheckResult data conforming to the Elastic Common Schema and will write it into distinct datastreams per check to avoid field explosion from the various check results.

For more details on all the changes, you can consult the userguide section about this feature.

VMD update to 1.8.0

We have updated the vSphereDB module to improve monitoring capabilities and simplify configuration management, responding directly to user requests.

This update introduces two key features:

  • vSphere Tag Visualization: It is now possible to import and view tags from vSphere, allowing for better asset management and the creation of smarter monitoring rules.
  • Deletion of Unused vCenters: The ability to remove obsolete vCenter connections has been added to keep the configuration clean and reduce complexity.

For more details on all the changes, you can consult the official changelog for the v1.8.0 release.

Module monitoringview support of IcingaDB Web

The module monitoringview has been updated to support IcingaDB Web.
This module allows for selective hiding or showing each section of the host and service pages to a role – and therefore to a user.

Since IcingaDB Web introduces some new sections in the host and service pages and some sections have been redesigned, the module monitoringview has been updated accordingly to support these changes. This brings new permissions to manage the visibility of the new sections and updates some existing permissions to reflect the new structure of the host and service pages.
For more details, refer to the upgrade guide.

Reporting

Panel description in SLM Resource Reports

This release introduces the option to display Grafana panel descriptions in SLM resource reports, enabling readers to understand the meaning of each graph without additional explanations. Reporting admins can enable or disable this option in the report settings (by default, it is disabled). This enhances report clarity, making it easier for customers to read and interpret reports independently.

Percentage accuracy in SLM Reports

To help service providers communicate service performance with greater accuracy and transparency, we’ve improved how availability data is represented in SLM reports. You can now define the decimal precision of availability percentages and select the rounding method that best fits your reporting standards, enabling clearer and more precise SLM reports.

Performance Graph improvements

We introduced a new set of predefined Performance Graph panels for commonly used monitoring commands in NetEye. These panels provide an improved visualization experience, including:

  • Clear units of measurement
  • Enhanced legends
  • Consistent graph styling

The new panels cover: Memory and swap checks, Service monitoring checks (Linux and Windows).

Elastic Stack

Elastic Stack updated to version 9.2

To ensure all Elastic SIEM and Observability users benefit from the latest features, performance enhancements and bug fixes, NetEye has upgraded the Elastic Stack from version 9.0 to version 9.2.

This update introduces exciting features like the Agent Builder, DiskBBQ and much more.

Elasticsearch Cluster Upgrade speed-up

Keeping your Elasticsearch cluster up to date is essential to ensure system stability, security, and access to the latest features. However, in large environments with dozens of nodes, the upgrade process can be time-consuming, often discouraging regular maintenance.

With this NetEye release, we introduce a significantly optimized upgrade procedure for Elasticsearch. The new approach intelligently upgrades multiple nodes in parallel based on their roles, while maintaining shard availability and overall cluster integrity throughout the process.

This enhancement can reduce Elasticsearch upgrade times by up to 50% in large environments, making it easier and faster to stay current with Elasticsearch updates.

For detailed information on the optimized upgrade workflow, please refer to the dedicated User Guide section.

APM – User Experience

Upgrade of Alyvix UI to Vue 3

Alyvix UI now runs on Vue 3, bringing faster performance, improved security, and a smoother user experience. The upgrade reduces load times, improves stability, and ensures compatibility with modern technologies.

With a more efficient framework, we can develop and deliver new features faster. Security enhancements help protect against vulnerabilities and keep your system reliable.
