On-premise or cloud? This is the dilemma…

This is Jim. Jim is an IT manager working for a company based in London. His company has been using Jira for maaaaaany years.

He is quite happy with the tools and has experienced better communication within his and other teams, faster delivery times, and a greater UX as a consequence.

It’s the middle of November, and Jim takes his brand-new BMW and drives to work. He turns on the radio and starts singing along. He’s happy and cannot wait to be at work to implement all his new ideas.

He enters the office and greets his colleagues, wishing them a good start to the week. As every morning, he opens his emails and gets things organized for the day. It takes him around 20 minutes to reply to all emails, and he finally comes to the last one. The sender is Atlassian.

Usually, such emails contain the latest news about the company and its products, but not this time. The email says something like:

“ATLASSIAN WILL END ITS SERVER SUPPORT IN FEBRUARY 2024

Jim starts feeling high blood pressure, sweating, and panics. Jim has Jira nicely installed on his server.

What do we do now? I don’t want to move to the cloud; I’ve heard of companies losing all their data when migrating. I also heard it’s not safe”.

THERE IS A JIM INSIDE ALL OF US. We have all been there. And like Jim, we were scared about all the stories we’ve heard about cloud migration.

  • “I will lose data during migration.”
  • “The cloud is not safe.”
  • “Apps aren’t available on the cloud.”
  • “Big enterprises aren’t using the cloud.”

The reality is… all of these concerns are… just concerns!

We have heard many of these “false myths” in the past years.

We do understand companies are scared to change, but as my old friend John (John F. Kennedy) once told me:

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or present are certain to miss the future”.

So… you have to jump on the boat as well, I guess😊

To help debunk all these false myths and understand why to move NOW, we recorded a nice webinar, so you can get an overview of what you can achieve through cloud migration.

But I would like to discuss at least the most common myths we talked about in the webinar…

The first myth is about SAFETY.

“The cloud is not safe.” We heard it many times, and this is probably the biggest concern everyone has.

Atlassian claims various security certifications and:

“94% of companies that have already moved to the cloud say their security has improved”. (Atlassian)

During our webinar, we explain why the cloud is safer and what Atlassian does in order to keep your data safe.

The second myth is about SCALABILITY.

On-prem customers always think that the cloud only works for small companies, but in reality:

“80 per cent of Fortune 500 companies use Atlassian Cloud systems”

As you noticed, these are groundless thoughts. The cloud allows faster collaboration through teams, faster releases, and hundreds of integrations (and this is why WE LOVE ATLASSIAN!)

Atlassian lets you acquire licenses through their website, and it even provides support through detailed documentation. However, we advise you to get a great partner to migrate to the cloud, one who will accompany you through the whole process, to not risk losing precious data!

Experience and continuous learning are the key to helping a company succeeding with the migration, and avoiding any problems during the process.

Always remember that you are not alone, and we are there to support you! So feel free to contact us for any questions!

Btw, if you are wondering what happened to Jim… well… he’s still unsure whether to make a move now or wait…

I don’t know what to do, a migration takes too long, and now we do not have time to waste”.

In the meantime, his company is still wasting time maintaining their server and not getting the latest upgrades they would like to have…

Don’t be like Jim. Make the change now.
